🛢️ NASA Reports on Wind Farms…and It Ain’t Positive

Plus, BRICS Versus Petrodollar

Good morning; here's what the Oilman has for you today:

  • BRICS’ GDP Overtakes the G7

  • NASA Reports: Wind Farms Produce Localized Warming

A Countdown for the Petrodollar?

You may have heard the news: Brazil and China seal a deal to trade in yuan. Chinese currency becomes most traded in Russia. BRICS is releasing its own currency.

There’s more of these reports out there, and they’re getting more frequent. What is happening?

A fall from grace foretold

The U.S. dollar has been the world’s reserve currency for decades.

This has given U.S. governments the near-unique power to use the country’s financial system as a tool for punishing other countries.

Yep, I’m talking about sanctions. More specifically, the abuse of sanctions.

Look, sanctions are fine if you want to get an authoritarian regime in line.

The problem is when you start overdoing them.

That’s when all sorts of “regimes” start wondering if it’s such a good idea to use your currency.

Then they come to the conclusion that it isn’t.

Biden and the EU totally overdid it.

What on earth did the Biden admin expect when they started seizing Russian foreign assets and cutting it off from SWIFT?

That others won’t get worried if they’re next?

Well, they have gotten worried and are dropping the dollar.

The dollar’s death is far from imminent

Having said all that, BRICS—and other countries—moving away from the dollar to other currencies does not mean the greenback is on its deathbed.

There is no fast way to unseat the world’s reserve currency in a matter of months.

But there is a slow way, and BRICS is taking a slow-and-stead approach.

This should be alarming because BRICS just overtook the G7 in terms of GDP.

And then we might discover that de-dollarization can go from slow to fast unexpectedly.

You know, the way financial crises first happen slowly, and then they happen all at once.

Today's Edition is Brought to You By Energy Builders Podcast

On the latest episode our guest is Brett Chell. Brett is the Founder and CEO of Cold Bore Technology, producer of LayerZERO, a digital infrastructure provider for pads all over the US. They partner with and service a wide range of clients from most of the pressure pumpers in the US, to the operators that contract them, and every service company in between.

On this episode, Brett and Adam discuss:

  • His experience working on, running, and building drilling rigs

  • How he transitioned from the oilfield to capital formation

  • And how he used his experience to build a quarter-of-a-billion-dollar energy tech company

NASA Reports on Wind Farms…and It Ain’t Positive

Wind farms cause land surface temperature in the area where they are built to rise.

The above comes straight from NASA, reporting on a study done over nine years.

Everyone has a dark side, even if they’re a wind turbine

Here’s a little secret: this is not the first study that finds a causal link between wind power generation and higher surface temperatures.

It’s not even the second.

There is quite a bit of research proving that wind turbines affect the weather in the immediate vicinity.

Awkward, right?

And that’s not the only awkward thing.

Because wind turbines – where’s a lot of them – affect wind patterns.

In a bad way.

Basically, the more turbines there are in one place, the less electricity they produce.

But, isn’t that the whole goal of the “renewable energy” project? Get as many windmills turbines in one place?

Please note the sardonic spirit in which the Oilman uses this GIF…

Burying our heads in the sand is not exactly productive

Transition forecasters and analysts regularly overlook the shortcomings and drawbacks of wind and solar.

They frequently forget that both technologies are dependent on the oil and gas industry for essential elements, from lubricants for the turbines to plastic for the cables.

The thing is, not talking about them doesn’t make these things go away.

Ignoring them could actually become a problem down the road when someone starts wondering how come there are so many turbines, and they’re only producing electricity with something like 10% efficiency.

Better to own up and come up with a way to minimize the damage.
