Texas Breaks Oil, Gas Production Records

Texas pumped 5.5 million bpd of crude in June and July, breaking a record set decades ago.

Gas output also hit an all-time high at 31.4 billion cu ft daily.

World’s third-largest in gas, fourth-largest in oil

Data from the Texas Oil & Gas Association shows that if the Lone Star State was a country, it would be in the top five for oil and gas production.

In gas, Texas would be the third-largest globally.

In oil, it would be the fourth-largest producer in the world.

As it is, the state accounts for close to half of the national total for oil.

It also accounts for close to a third of the national total for gas.

And it is the leader in production growth.

First, in all disciplines

"Texas shouldered three-quarters of U.S. oil production growth year-to-date through July, re-setting its production records in the process."

That’s per TXOGA chief economist Dean Foreman.

He also said, “U.S. oil and natural gas have remained abundant, and with Texas' leadership, these resources could remain the bedrock of American energy security for decades to come.”

Meanwhile, Texas has also become a national leader in wind and solar, too.

The Lone Star State takes its energy security very seriously.

And not just its own.

"Clearly, Texas has the natural resources, manpower, and infrastructure to meet not just our energy needs, but the energy needs of our nation and that of a growing world," per TXOGA president Todd Staples.

Can’t really argue with that, not when all forecasts point to much higher energy demand ahead.

U.S. Set to Dominate Global LNG Market

The United States will be the biggest player on the global LNG market as it adds the most capacity by 2027.

The boost will be part of a twofold increase in global LNG capacity.

So much shale gas around

The shale revolution turned the U.S. into a top gas producer.

LNG technology turned the U.S. into a top gas exporter.

And with demand for gas seen as robust, it’s only going to cement this position.

Per GlobalData, the U.S. will add 216.6 million tons to its LNG capacity by 2027.

The whopping surge will come from both newbuilds and expansions of existing facilities.

Just how impressive those capacity additions are evident by the world’s second and third-largest LNG capacity growers.

Russia is a distant second with 67.5 million tons annually.

Qatar is an even more distant third, with 48 million tons per year.

The bridge fuel is back

Remember how gas was referred to as a bridge fuel to a low-carbon future?

Well, it’s no longer called that, but it’s still the lowest-emission hydrocarbon.

So demand is thriving.

And so are plans for new LNG capacity.

The global total could reach 958 million tons annually by 2027.

That would be up from 487.3 million tons right now.

A twofold increase in capacity strongly hints at an expected strong growth in demand.

That’s the thing about energy security: you don’t have to like it, but you must have it.

And LNG seems like a perfect form for that energy every country needs for security reasons.
